Mt. Baker Research L.L.C. ProductsRe-fired Ceramic PlatesMt. Baker Research receives many ceramic plates that are unusable because of surface defects. We do not supply defective plates. To maintain our high standard of quality we clean and inspect all plates before accepting them. Following non-destructive machine washing we dry the plates in a warm, circulating air bath and inspect them for defects. To date we have processed 5,000 plates with this method. For several problematic varieties only 15% of the ceramic plates passed our quality acceptance criteria. When possible we re-fire the defective plates in order to repair minor surface defects. The re-firing procedure is expensive, and only limited quantities of the re-fired plates are available. (Note: Re-firing does not cause significant changes in color or appearance.) We ship each re-fired ceramic plate in a re-sealable laboratory-grade polyethylene bag. The prices listed below are subject to the availability of the re-fired plates.
