Mt. Baker Research L.L.C. InformationR&D NewsULTRA-WHITE COLOR STANDARDS:Our long-term (2 year) goals are to increase the spectral reflectance of our Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 Ultra-White standards in the near-ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared. To address these goals we have scheduled additional tests with our strategic ally that manufactures these tiles to our specifications. At their request, we are evaluating new experimental ultra-white materials again as a long-term initiative.COLOR GAMUT:During 2008 we added more than 100 new colors to our inventory of commercial tiles. After we calibrate typical samples of each color, we will develop new tile sets that feature increased color gamut.OPTICAL SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS:During 2008 we launched a new R&D program to evaluate the surface characteristics and the optical properties of ceramic glazes used by different manufacturers. PROFILING SERVICE:With our strategic ally CyberChrome, Inc., we are exploring the feasibility of adding on-site instrument profiling as a new service. We are well qualified to perform profiling because of our extensive experience with color management and instrument validation and our participation in the development and testing of OnColor Profiler software.SEALED COLOR STANDARDS:We are actively developing color standards sealed with silicone resin to prevent exposure of the ceramic bodies to dirt, moisture, chemical vapors, or spilled liquids. We will offer this as an option in 2009.MATRIX ARRAYS:We developed the 4-tile matrix arrays for use with portable (small aperture) spectrophotometers. We are developing 4-tile arrays for use with benchtop instruments and large matrix arrays for profiling digital cameras. |
