Mt. Baker Research L.L.C. Information

Cleaning Kit

Because ceramic color standards are stable, they are preferred for testing spectrophotometer performance. Careful handling and maintenance reduce the need for cleaning and contribute to color stability. With proper care ceramic color standards should remain in good working order for many years.

Whenever a precision optical component is cleaned, its critical surface may be damaged. To reduce the likelihood of damage the frequency of cleaning should be minimized, and the recommended procedures should be followed when cleaning becomes necessary.

The product warranty issued by Mt. Baker Research applies to color standards that are received in defective condition. Our warranty does not provide free replacement of color standards that are damaged by mishandling or misuse by the customer.

During a one-time-only 30-day grace period, we will replace standards damaged by the customer for 50% of list price. This option is available immediately following delivery of the color standards. This discount does not apply to calibration services. If re-calibration is required, the customer will be charged for this service at the regular price.

Because we carefully inspect each color standard prior to shipment, within 10 days the customer must report defective color standards to us in writing. To receive full purchase credit for the replacements, the defective standards must be promptly returned accompanied by a written description of the problem.

Cleaning Kit Contents

  • 6 pairs of lint-free, archival grade washable cotton gloves. Always wear them when handling color standards.
  • 12 pairs of disposable nitrile gloves. Wear these gloves when cleaning color standards with isopropyl alcohol.
  • 300 each PEC*PAD non-abrasive wipers. Don't substitute other wipers when cleaning color standards.
  • 1 each 4 oz re-fillable plastic bottle. Fill this dropping dispenser with isopropyl alcohol (90%).
  • 15 each 3-mil (lab grade) sealable polyethylene bags. Use these bags to dispose of PEC*PAD wipers that are contaminated with isopropyl alcohol.
  • 1 each 20 mm Kinetronics StaticWisk brush. Before each measurement use this brush to remove dust or lint from the optical surface. Do not touch the bristles with ungloved hands.
  • 1 each re-sealable black plastic case.
  • Instructions for routine cleaning a set of color standards, for cleaning a contaminated color standard, and for purchasing and using isopropyl alcohol and compressed tetrafluoroethane.
  • CD disk that includes the instruction and maintenance manuals.
  • P/N MBCK-CleaningKit-02 (2x2-inch color standards) or MBCK-CleaningKit-06 (6x6-inch ceramic plates).

Because of shipping restrictions, we do not supply isopropyl alcohol or compressed tetrafluoroethane with the Cleaning Kit. Purchase additive-free isopropyl alcohol (90%) mixed with distilled water (10%). This mixture is irritating, toxic and highly flammable. Wear eye protection and avoid prolonged exposure to the vapors. We recommend using additive-free compressed 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane because it is non-contaminating and nonflammable.
