Mt. Baker Research L.L.C. InformationBiographiesDr. John W. Root, Ph.D.Jack Root is president and chief technical officer at Mt. Baker Research where his responsibilities include the following: develop, manufacture and distribute color standards, perform traceable calibration services, and conduct research in optical materials and color metrology. Since 1999 he has pursued full-time research and development in color metrology, color management and digital imaging. During 2006, in collaboration with Art Springsteen, Jack developed ceramic color standards that supported improved testing and characterization of spectrophotometers. In 2008 he developed ultra-white color standards and, in collaboration with Elaine Becker, he introduced the Profiling Tile Sets. During 2009 Jack introduced the Diagnostic Tile Sets and the Cleaning Kit and developed a novel procedure for measuring and characterizing translucency in optical materials. At present he is extending this procedure to include other instruments as well as measurements in the near-infrared and the (0°/45°) bi-directional geometry. Jack is a retired computer specialist from the Los Alamos National Laboratory and professor from the University of California, Davis, where he taught physical chemistry and led basic research in photochemistry, radiochemistry, and chemical kinetics under sponsorship by the Department of Energy and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. He is best known for publications in fluorine-18 radiotracer chemical kinetics and the book Short-Lived Radionuclides in Chemistry and Biology, which he co-edited with Dr. Kenneth A. Krohn. A former Guggenheim Scholar and Association of Western Universities Fellow, Jack has held memberships in numerous professional societies. He has authored several hundred technical publications, reports and presentations. Presently a member of the Inter Society Color Council, he holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Kansas and a Postdoctoral Certificate in radiochemistry from UCLA, where Nobel Laureate Willard Libby sponsored his research in plasma spectroscopy. Dr. Arthur W. Springsteen, Ph.D.Art Springsteen is the president and chief technical officer at Avian Technologies. Elaine F. Becker.Elaine Becker is marketing director and technical specialist at CyberChrome. |
